By candlelight

I love how candlelight is warmly romantic, softly dancing on the walls. It is good for quietly sipping wine under a warm blanket. Which became the back-up plan for Saturday night when the electricity briefly died twice then went out for a few solid hours.

Plan A was to have a movie date night in the living room. I had moved the iMac out to the living room the night before to have a Chick Flick night while all the husbands headed up to the mountains to go backpacking. Saturday was supposed to be mine and Matt’s night to catch up on Arrested Development (which you can watch online here) until the power (only on our side of the block, mind you) called it quits.

But ah, the way life changes when you have children. You have all these wonderful expectations of what you would like to plan to do, then it rarely ever goes according to that plan. You have to try to grab those rare moments when you can. And even then it often doesn’t work out. The girl’s bedtime rolled around and I curled up on the couch with a glass of white wine waiting for Matt to finish tucking them in. Then Araiya decided she didn’t want to go to sleep. So I sat alone on the couch, staring at the dancing candlelight silhouetting the sexy lines of the iMac rather than my husband’s profile. Then I fell asleep on the couch waiting for Matt to get her to quiet down. So he woke me up, neck cramped from being awkwardly curled up on the couch and we both went to bed. Bust.
