It SNOWED!!

Yesterday about 1:00 in the afternoon, while on the phone with my mom in Truckee lamenting their lack of winter, small specks of white started spitting down from the sky. Those specks became bits, those bits flakes, those flakes chunks until huge silver-dollar sized masses of snow began pouring down onto the city. We leaped for joy, giddily running about the house shoving on snow gear, running outside, acting more childish than the kids. It came down fast. It was magical. By nightfall, we had about 3 inches here on the Hill. I think Volunteer Park is the highest point in this area and we are a bit farther south than that, probably somewhere around 300′ in elevation. As the dark settled in, the neighborhood was quiet, coated in a blanket of white. We baked cookies and made hot cocoa- it was warmly romantic.

Today the temperature has warmed, we are back to the usual drizzle but have retained a good amount of white slush. We drove out through Downtown and Interbay to Ballard this morning and all their snow is washed away. Fleeting, yes. But I’m sure we will soon be graced with another few bouts of soft falling snow this winter.

  1. Ours came down fast and furious but didn’t stick. Let’s go snowshoeing sometime this winter!
